The Virtual Workforce Library of Knowledge (VWLoK) is a database of organized and integrated information, related to the governance and management of a business, non-profit, federal agency, or other type of enterprise, organization, or program-project.

iVWM Membership is required for access to the VWLoK.

The purpose of the Knowledge is to provide all users of the Library, with the specific insight they need,

to practice their profession, in unison with, the other professions in their enterprise.

For example, using the library in realizing a virtual workforce.

When everybody knows 'who-does-what', what happens, happens with communication and understanding of what should be happening.
In other words, the Library promotes everyone working with the guidance of a navigation system which supports the goals and intentions of their work, and the work of others.

The Library is a GPS device used for enabling and assuring everybody and everything arriving at the same ultimate milestone, the outcome of the results: accomplishing the goals used for measuring success.

The Library provides this Knowledge to the practitioner using it, relative to the specific knowledge of the other practitioners which support and/or depend on the work of the practitioner using it, and the way everyone and key resources 'fit' into the workings of the enterprise.

When everybody does, what everybody needs to do to satisfy everybody's needs, everybody gets, what everybody needs to do their work.

Therefore, the value in the use of the Library is, through this method of knowledge distribution, the workforce has the insight needed to be empowered to work within the limits of governance controls, with minimal need for help or management interventions. This in turn, fosters a working environment which enables and assures discipline, adaptiveness, efficiency, effectiveness, quality, innovation, and other characteristics promoting business agility.

When everybody's work is quickly and ultimately getting to where everybody must get to, the work they did,

then realizes the capabilities that everybody expects.

The satisfaction this insight into the workings of the enterprise provides practitioners is, the ability for them, and other practitioners they interface with, to know, understand and communicate business compliance to, assurance with, and oversight of, the basic and fundamental way, a successful business is expected to operate, under management and control.
In this way, use of the knowledge enables and assures the desired results, intended outcomes, and consistency across the organizations, programs, projects, analyses, plans, mission and strategies of the business.

Governance, organization and integration of the workforce is not easy,

but it is the way a business consistently succeeds.

Working in a virtual work environment only makes governing, organizing and integrating harder to do.

Knowledge tools providing insight into the way 'things' are expected to work, are an absolute must.

The Knowledge is structured, aligned, and displayed to be quickly used to develop a virtual workforce capability, work in a virtual working environment, and manage a virtual workforce.

Therefore, the Library provides the Knowledge needed to prepare for, achieve, and sustain the ability to realize workforce virtualization.

To demonstrate a typical use of the Library by a practitioner, an example is the use of the VW Management, Leadership and Coordination Capability Knowledge spaces presenting the knowledge from a Capability point-of-view, with the relationships to the associated Knowledge Domains and Resources needed.
This is a useful perspective for the practitioner to see all that is involved in identifying, analyzing, planning, developing and operating a capability, presenting knowledge related to the way capabilities are realized, a complex, cross-functional, multi-organizational effort, involving multiple knowledge domains.

The knowledge is differentiated by Knowledge Space Topic. Each Knowledge Space is presented as one or more web pages, dedicated to the topic.
Each presents the knowledge on the topic, from the perspective of the topic, with
  • links to subtopics provided on the right sidebar of the page,
  • links in text and metadata, to bi-directional references within the library,
  • links in text and metadata, to bi-directional references within the library,

For example, a program management user, interested in knowing, understanding, and communicating the basics and fundamentals of the resources, they and others are responsible for, and the way they fit into the overall effort in leading a virtual team capability, would use this perspective.

As shown above, at the bottom of all pages within the VWLoK Knowledge Space are the resource metadata reports.
The default closed reports can then be opened to see, for example, the definition of the purpose for the capability, with the name providing a link to the associated metadata popup window.

that the capability involves people from the workforce
with the knowledge, experience, skills and abilities of 9 different Knowledge Domains.

The capability is implemented by the 9 Processes of the 9 knowledge domains.

Through the outputs of the 9 processes, the capability has a total of 222 work products.
Yes, a lot of work for just one capability, but they are only the minimum essential items required by the APQC, ISO/AS9000, CMMI-DEV/SRV, and ITIL Industry Process Management Standards.

The capability involves 9 lead roles, of the 9 knowledge domains, responsible for the 9 processes and 222 work products.
VWMLCC in Roles

The 9 lead roles have business procedures of 68 Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) categories involved in the capability.
That is, it takes 68 different types of PMO business procedures to operate a program office per industry standards.
Many businesses have many business procedures per each SOP category.

In addition, there are other reports on associated
  •      goals for virtual workforce management,
  •      the talent and behavioral characteristics the workforce should have,
  •      the tools and equipment needed in the working environment, and
  •      the technical solutions supporting the capability, such as, core solutions, reference architectures and standard products and services.
Clicking on links in the name column of a metadata report, will launch a popup window providing all metadata on the topic of the name. With links to the Knowledge Space of the topic and related resources.
For example, the program-project manager role. Under the "capability involves lead roles report". Clicking on the links in the popup window, will then navigate to the knowledge space on the topic.

Further use of the library would involve, for an example, the program manager using the reporting data to navigate from the "capabilities involves SOPs" report item "Service Delivery Planning, Management and Control SOP", to the Service Delivery Planning, Management and Control SOP VWLoK Knowledge Space, to review the related reporting to see the service manager, service administrator and improvement analyst are the 3 Lead Roles involved in the SOP activities.
